The Potter's Mark

The Potter's Mark
The Morris & James potter’s mark was developed by Ant Morris. Inspired by pots of the 1800s, the Penny Farthing represents the Victorian period. The Penny Farthing also represents the enormous difference that simple technology can make, but only according to the skill of the ‘rider’. Ant always had an interest in ‘intermediate’ technology, comparatively low tech machines that could be used to liberate the maker from the back breaking drudge of production. For him this early bicycle was a simple machine that profoundly changed the way that an individual could travel. The analogue is apt, as the intermediate technology used in the pottery largely frees the potters from the ‘pedestrian’ allowing them to concentrate on those things that cannot be accomplished by machine.
