How the Silhouette took shape

How the Silhouette took shape

Silhouette was developed by Morris & James glaze artist Jan Connelly (Jacs). At the time Jacs was mainly working with slips and exploring some of the classical painting forms. As a variation Jacs took some of the ideas from this and combined it with the Brilliant Red Hollyberry glaze to look at some new effects that could be achieved with it.

Combining the two ideas Jacs produced a couple of pieces that were particularly striking. It was decided to go ahead and experiment some more. The design was given the working title “Abstract Feminine Form” to reflect the outline that Jacs had been working with

After some more trials a final style was decided on. The design was brought into M&J production and given the name Silhouette due to the outline of the form.
