The Glaze Palette.

Morris & James is best known for its bright, colourful glazes, and every one was formulated at the pottery.

Many glazes were developed over the years. The palette below is the last confirmed glaze list at the time the pottery closed.

Premium glazes

Some glazes cost more to make because of their ingredients. These were priced as premium, and are marked here.

Crazing

Most often seen on the premium Hollyberry and Oceans glazes: microscopic cracks that can show as fine white lines when damp and dusty. Pottery care.

On screen

Each swatch is a photograph of fired glaze. Colour shifts between screens, so treat it as a guide.

Before and after the firing.

Raw glaze comes nowhere near the finished look. Only the glaze firing reveals the true nature of glaze and clay.

The Work

Run off the tip of the brush.

Each glaze had a nature of its own. Some were run off the tip of the brush, some were brushed, some were floated on. It took up to two years to be fully trained in the hand decorating area.
